‘What’s Really Important?’

By DANNY MINTON

In the beginning, was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us,

“Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.”

“Son, why have you treated us like this? Your father and I have been anxiously searching for you.”

“Why were you searching for me?”

“Didn’t you know I had to be in my Father’s house?”

“You are my Son, whom I love; with you, I am well pleased.”

“The Spirit of the Lord is on me because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free, 19  to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.”

“Today, this scripture is fulfilled in your hearing.”

“ ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. 39  And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”

“I am the bread of life; he who comes to Me will not hunger, and he who believes in Me will never thirst.

“I am the Light of the world; he who follows Me will not walk in the darkness but will have the Light of life.”

“I am the door; if anyone enters through Me, he will be saved and will go in and out and find pasture.

“I am the good shepherd; the good shepherd lays down His life for the sheep.

“I am the resurrection and the life; he who believes in Me will live even if he dies, and everyone who lives and believes in Me will never die. Do you believe this?”

“I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me.

“I am the true vine, and My Father is the vinedresser.”

“Go to the village ahead of you, and as you enter it, you will find a colt tied there, which no one has ever ridden. Untie it and bring it here. If anyone asks you, ‘Why are you untying it?’ say, ‘The Lord needs it.’ ”

“I have eagerly desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer. For I tell you, I will not eat it again until it finds fulfillment in the kingdom of God.”

“This is my body given for you; do this in remembrance of me.”

“This cup is the new covenant in my blood, which is poured out for you.

“The hand of him who is going to betray me is with mine on the table. The Son of Man will go as it has been decreed. But woe to that man who betrays him!”

“I tell you, Peter, before the rooster crows today, you will deny three times that you know me.”

“Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me; yet not my will, but yours be done.”

“Judas, are you betraying the Son of Man with a kiss?”

“Am I leading a rebellion that you have come with swords and clubs? Every day I was with you in the temple courts, and you did not lay a hand on me. But this is your hour—when darkness reigns.”

“This man was with him.”

 “Woman, I don’t know him,”

“You also are one of them.”

“Man, I am not!”

“Certainly, this fellow was with him, for he is a Galilean.”

“Man, I don’t know what you’re talking about!”

The rooster crowed.

“Are you the king of the Jews?”

“You have said so,”
“Away with this man! Release Barabbas to us!”

“Crucify him! Crucify him!”

“Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.” And they divided up his clothes by casting lots.
“Truly I tell you, today you will be with me in paradise.”

“Father, into your hands. I commit my spirit.”

“Why do you look for the living among the dead?

“Fear not ye; for I know that ye seek Jesus, who hath been crucified. He is not here; for he is risen.”
“The Son of Man must be delivered over to the hands of sinners, be crucified and on the third day be raised again.”

“Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation. Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned.”

“And lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world.”

There are so many other things Jesus did. If they were all written down, each of them, one by one, I can’t imagine a world big enough to hold such a library of books.

So again, the question, “What’s really important?”
