Monk-Stamey Lecture Series At McMurry

A cultural anthropologist who is a professor at the Perkins School of Theology at SMU, will be guest speaker for the Monk-Stamey Lecture Series at McMurry University Oct. 12-13.

Dr. Harold Recinos is Professor of Church and Society at Perkins. He led a group of McMurry students on a Spiritual Formation Pilgrimage to El Salvador in May through the university’s Religious & Spiritual Life office. The lectures are free and open to the public. Lecture Series schedule follows:

Lecture 1: “God is Undocumented”

Recinos has published 30 books, including six theological works and 24 collections of poetry. He has been nominated three times for the Pulitzer Prize in poetry. He also is a long-distance runner and a practitioner and teacher of Chinese martial arts. He is a five-time international tournament Grand Champion in Chinese martial arts, the latest honor coming in 2024.  His teaching specialties at Perkins School of Theology are anthropology of religion, North American Latino/a theology, racial and ethnic studies, popular religion, and urban ministry.
