Vacation Bible School may be the best-known summer activity at churches, but the fun doesn’t end there.

Many churches are offering fun events for children and families, and most of it is free. If you would like to add an event, please send details to editor@spiritofabilene.com. The information should include the name of the event, what it involves, location, ages, days, times, and whether it’s free. Following are some of the upcoming events. 

FIRST CENTRAL PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH
Where: 400 Orange St., Minter Room
What: Free movies
When: 6-8:30 p.m. Sunday evenings, May 31 through mid-August
Details: Refreshments will be served. Zach Ingle, a Hardin-Simmons University professor of communication, will give a five-minute introduction to each film. After the movie, he will answer questions. 

HIGHLAND CHURCH OF CHRIST
Where: 425 Highland Ave auditorium
What: Movie night
When: 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, June 3
Details: Popcorn and candy

FIRST CHRISTIAN CHURCH
Where: 5125 Antilley, WeeCare House
What: Summer Kid’z Club
When 6-7:30 p.m. June 7, 14, 28; July 5 and 26; Aug. 2
Details: Grades 3-5; Bible stories, snacks and fun

SOUTHERN HILLS CHURCH OF CHRIST

What: Family Fun Nights 
When: June 3, Abilene Zoo; June 10, Abilene Swim Club; June 17, Nelson Park Festival Gardens; June 24, Abilene Flying Bison

What: Friendship House Children’s Backyard Bible Club
