SACRED MUSIC CENTER OPENS

 

Guests at the Sept. 30 of the Julia Jones Matthews Sacred Music Center at the Episcopal Church of the Heavenly Rest enjoyed a concert and tour of the new center. A large gathering of church members and music lovers helped celebrate the grand opening Sept. 30 of the Julia Jones Matthews Sacred Music Center at the Episcopal Church of the Heavenly Rest, 602 Meander St.

A concert in the nave preceded the opening. The concert featured Heavenly Rest musicians Ronald Rathbun, Mark and Lauren Puckett, Susetta Rockett, Elizabeth Goff, Brandon Houghtalen, Kristin Ward and Inger Nordby. Choir director Jeffrey Goolsby and the Heavenly Rest Choral Scholars gave a special performance in the music center.

As part of the grand opening, a new music library was dedictaed to the memory of Conrad C. Bratton, longtime choirmaster and parish administrator who died in 2014.
