New Beginnings House Destroyed in Fire
New Beginnings Big Country lost one of its transitional housing homes in a fire on Feb. 15. Due to low water pressure caused by the historic winter storm, firefighters were unable to put out the fire in time to save the house.
The house, which was home to eight women, was located on Cedar Crest. New Beginnings provides housing, lifeskills and job training for women transitioning from incarceration. The house on Cedar Crest had been a part of New Beginnings for over nine years. The eight women escaped the fire with no injuries.
“Many of our friends and community partners have reached out to offer help,” Missy Denard, founder, said in an email. “We appreciate all of the love and concern.”
Denard is looking for a house to rent until a decision is made about rebuilding. The ministry owns a storage space, so donations can be accepted.
