Who Is in Your Hall of Fame?

By Glenn Dromgoole

(This is the last of three excerpts from the book Parables from the Diamond that I co-authored with Phil Christopher, published in 2009 and now out of print.)

The National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum in Cooperstown, New York, is one of the nation’s favorite tourist locations. Of the many thousands who have played the game, or managed, umpired or administered, only 351 have been voted into the Hall of Fame.

The museum houses not only the plaques of members of the Hall of Fame but also baseball memorabilia that testify to the sport’s rich history and bring back memories for the thousands of fans who visit the site.

What about your own Hall of Fame? Of the thousands of people you have known in your life, who are the select few you would vote into your Hall of Fame?

Your parents, perhaps, or grandparents. Several teachers who helped build your intellect and character. Maybe a Boy Scout leader or a Sunday school teacher. Some college professors. A boss who gave you opportunity. Wife, children, friends. Preachers, community leaders, writers, singers.

Who has had the most influence on your life. Why not induct them today into your personal Hall of Fame?
