Getting Home

By Glenn Dromgoole

I don’t travel a lot. I don’t like airports, and I find that I can’t drive very far before I need to pull over and take a nap. And, when I get to the hotel, the pillows are too large or too hard or too something.

The best thing I have found about a vacation is getting home. Do you ever feel that way?

You’re gone for a week or 10 days or whatever, and you really look forward to getting home, sleeping in your own bed, on your own pillows, having a grilled cheese sandwich for supper, eating a midnight snack if you want to.

I know there are a lot of wonderful sites to see:

* Scenic parks and great cities to behold.
*Important museums and historic landmarks to visit.
*Outstanding restaurants to enjoy a memorable — and very expensive – meal.
*Baseball or football stadiums where you’ve always thought you’d like to see a game.
*Cruises that promise relaxing, carefree, gastronomically delightful days.

But if I was inclined to make a so-called bucket list of places I wanted to see before I pass on, my list would be pretty short.

I like seeing the driveway at my house. I’m home, thank you very much.

Glenn, I think I agree. I’m about to leave on a trip up NORTH to Princeton University for our annual Hymn Society meeting/conference. But I find myself already thinking of getting back before I’ve even started! Hope it will be worth all the bother! LW ________________________________
