The Food Bank of West Central Texas is opening a drive-thru food pantry that will be open hours and days that other pantries in town aren’t.
The first public distribution is set for Saturday, May 9, 9-10:30 a.m. The monthly schedule follows:
- Second Saturday of each month, 9-10:30 a.m.’
- Third Monday of each month, 4:30-6 p.m.
- First Thursday of each month (reserved for Taylor County residents ages 55 and over), 9-10:30 a.m.
A grand opening with ribbon cutting will begin at noon Wednesday, April 29. The ribbon cutting will be followed by a community celebration and open house. Invited guests will have the opportunity to tour the new facility and learn more about the expanded services.
The City of Abilene has proclaimed April 29 as “Feeding Neighbors Day.” Mayor Weldon Hurt and State Rep. Stan Lambert will be present for the celebration.
“This new facility significantly expands our ability to serve the region by improving accessibility, increasing capacity, and creating a more welcoming space for volunteers and neighbors alike,” said Broc Baird, Marketing & Communications Director. “We’re excited to better meet the growing need for food assistance across West Central Texas.”
