MOWING AS A SPIRITUAL PRACTICE

Not many people have creativity in mind when mowing the yard. But the Rev. Mary Glover, rector of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, decided to make the last mowing of the year a memorable one, creating a labyrinth in her backyard.

Walking a labyrinth, which is a kind of maze, is an ancient spiritual practice. Glover found a drawing of a traditional labyrinth on the internet and transferred those dimensions to the yard.

When she completed mowing the design into the yard, she walked the labyrinth and has done so several times since then. If winter lasts long enough, she will get to walk it several times before spring comes and the labyrinth disappears.
