Reminders of the Cross

By Danny Minton

I’m not a biologist or an astronomer, but both are fascinating fields to study. Over the years, I came across a couple of interesting finds that made me stop and think about the universe in which we live.

Our bodies contain a protein called “Laminins.” The definition I found states, “Laminins are major proteins in the basal lamina, also called the basement membrane, which is a protein network foundation for most cells and organs. The laminins are an important and biologically active part of the basal lamina, influencing cell differentiation, migration, adhesion, as well as phenotype and survival. Without Laminin, we could not live.” It’s technical, but it sounds to me that laminins are proteins that hold us together.

When pictures are taken of laminins, it’s interesting to note that these essential proteins in the human body resemble a cross.

As you look through the Hubble Telescope, you view many wonders of the universe. But there is one galaxy 23 million light years away called the Whirlpool Galaxy.

Far out in the universe, this spiral galaxy is much like the one in which our planet exists.

Located at its core is what astronomers call an “X” structure. However, when you look at it at first glance, it doesn’t look like an “X” but a cross.

Coincidence? Maybe.

By Plan? Again, maybe.

There is, of course, no proof that God placed these there as a reminder. The shape of a cross is found in all types of things in life. However, it’s interesting that no matter where you go in the universe, from inside your own bodies to far corners, you can never get away from the Cross. It’s a message that will be there for generations to come.

Living within our bodies and in the depths of the universe in which we live is a message sent to us. It’s a simple message. “No one comes to the Father except through me.” (John 14:6). Interestingly, both within our bodies and the universe in which we live exist reminders of the love of our Creator.

I suggest another name for it instead of the “X” structure. How about “Heaven’s Gate”?

“For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.” 1 Corinthians 1:18
