Free Screening of ‘Where is Palestine?’ Documentary June 9

A free screening of the documentary ‘Where Is Palestine?” will begin at 7 p.m. Saturday, June 9, at The People’s Plaza, 1290 S. Willis St.

The documentary premiered in November 2018 at the Paramount Theater. It was made by Abilenians Nathan Driskill, Timothy Palmer, and Julia Palmer Smith. Timothy and Julia are the children of former missionaries Phillip and Elayne Palmer. Julia was born in Gaza when the family lived there.

In the documentary, a young woman says she asked her dad the question, “Where is Palestine?” He was a Palestinian and she was curious. He first says, “West of Jordan,” but then adds, “You’re not going to find it on the globe.”

The three Abilenians traveled to the Middle East to film the documentary. Their voices are not heard in the film. The Palestinians they interviewed tell their own story.

In 2018, Loretta Fulton wrote an article about the making of the documentary for the Abilene Reporter-News.
