Celebrate Africa

A festival of African music, culture, and cuisine will be held 2-5 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 26, at the Episcopal Church of the Heavenly Rest, 602 Meander St.

The fifth annual Tamasha la wa Afrika (Celebration of Africa) will feature music by the Alleluia Choir, which is a part of the Swahili language congregation led by Bikole Mulanda that meets at Heavenly Rest. The festival also will include traditional East African food, as well as cultural demonstrations.

Theme for this year’s festival is “Hata mwisho wa nchi” or ”To the Ends of the Earth.” A special guest will be Rt. Rev. Francis Omondi, bishop of the Diocese of Garissa in Kenya. The missionary diocese lies along Kenya’s border with Somalia. Omondi will preach at Heavenly Rest’s 10:30 a.m. service and will offer remarks during the festival.
