San Angelo, Texas —On Saturday, July 12, members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latterday Saints were busy working to help relieve the suffering of neighbors in need.
Heavy rains caused severe flooding in wide swaths of San Angelo. Muddy water flooded homes, damaging walls, floors, and furniture. Over 175 church members, with half from Abilene, drove large trucks and towed trailer to help people clean out their damaged homes.
Church leaders contacted citizens in the flooded areas beforehand to help determine the best way to help. Church members gave out food kits, hygiene kits, water, strong trash bags, and lots of physical help to remove ruined furnishings, damaged floors, soaked carpet, drywall, insulation, and clean out a considerable amount of mud. Some homes had up to four feet of water damage.

President Cavin R. Hill, who leads the church congregations in the Abilene, San Angelo, and surrounding communities, said, “I find it very humbling to witness the outpouring of support and assistance for our neighbors in need. The good people in the San Angelo area were so friendly and appreciative of the assistance. We were able to work side by side in helping cleanup from this devastating flood.”
