Bishop Michael Sis of the Catholic Diocese of San Angelo will be in Abilene for Ash Wednesday observances at all three universities, McMurry, Hardin-Simmons, and Abilene Christian. 

He will be at McMurry for an 8 a.m. Mass in the chapel in the student center. The McMurry service will be the only Mass that the Bishop presides over. He will conduct a service, with no Eucharist, at HSU and ACU. 

The public is invited to services at all three universities. The schedule follows:

8 a.m.–McMurry student center
11 a.m.–ACU Chapel on the Hill
5 p.m.–HSU Logsdon Chapel

Sis visits colleges and universities within the diocese for Ash Wednesday services on a rotating schedule. The last time he visited the Abilene universities was in 2023. 

Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of the season of Lent, a 40-day period leading to Easter. Lent is observed in some traditions by fasting, spiritual reflection, and daily readings.
