Universities Feature Black History Month Events

McMurry and Abilene Christian universities are hosting Black History Month programs in upcoming weeks.

McMurry will feature its third annual Black History Month Luncheon 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 20, in the Garrison United Methodist Campus Center, Mabee Room A. Individual tickets are $30. 

Featured speaker will be Dr. Hope Pamplin, current McMurry board member, who will speak on  “Authentically YOU: Loving the Skin You’re In.”

The luncheon celebrates Black history, culture, and contributions and is organized by McMurry University’s PAATH and TRIO Clubs.

ACU already has had three programs on campus. Up next is an Abilene Black History Bus Tour, featuring stops at local sites of significance. That tour will be held Feb. 21.

Other upcoming events at ACU will be held:

Feb. 24 – Dr. Theodore Francis, associate professor of history and global studies: “The Black Experience” at 11:30 a.m. in the World Famous Bean Smart Classroom.
Feb. 28 – AFRAM (African American) Festival featuring food, games, and performances at 6 p.m., ACU campus mall area.
