Two upcoming book signings at Texas Star Trading Company, 174 Cypress St., will offer the opportunity to buy books that are perfect for the little ones on your Christmas list.

First up will be Janice Six, author of Life Lessons for Littles. Her book signing will be 1-3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 30. Six, a retired Presbyterian minister, suggests 26 spiritual values that children need to understand early in life. 

Each lesson is illustrated by a story or two written in easy-to-read verse intended to be shared aloud with children, accompanied by several follow-up discussion questions – or ”sparks” – a Bible verse, and a simple prayer. Photo illustrations are by Julia Six Aldriedge. 

Penny Klostermann will sign copies of her latest picture book, Merry Christmas, Dear Mars, 1-3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 7. Klostermann, a best-selling Abilene children’s author, spins a delightful tale of Santa visiting Mars on the night before Christmas.

The story is a retelling of A Visit from Saint Nicholas by Clement Clarke Moore. The idea came in 2011 when a blogger that Penny follows issued a challenge to come up with a reimagining of the story.

“There are many retellings of this famous poem,” Penny said, “so the challenge was to make my story fresh by giving it a fun twist, thus the new setting — Mars.”
