Operation Blue Jeans is under way at Christian Service Center, 3185 N. 10th St., and will continue through early September.
The annual event provides children with new back-to-school clothing, shoes, and backpacks.
“In the spirit of ‘paying it forward’ we’re asking parents to donate one can of food for each children receiving new school clothes,” said Jim Clark, executive director of the center.

Appointments are required and can be made by calling 673-7531. Time slots for appointments are Monday-Friday, 9 a.m.-noon and 1-4 p.m. Appointments also are available the first Saturday of each month through September.
Guidelines follow:
Elementary school students will receive two pairs of jean, five pairs of socks, and five pairs of underwear.
Middle school students will receive two pairs of jeans, a hoodie, five pairts of socks and five pairs of underwear.
Each student will receive one pair of new shoes and a backpack.
Age-appropriate children’s Bible will be available.
“The funding for this project comes from individual donors, a special collection taken at University Church of Christ on Aug. 11, and a donation from Remington Ridge Church of Christ of 144 new backpacks filled with school supplies,” Clark said.
