Authors Honored at Reception

Local authors, including several who have published books with a spiritual tie, will be celebrated at an authors’ reception at the Abilene Public Library, 202 Cedar St., at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 3.

The reception, which is free and open to the public, will be held in the second floor auditorium of the main library downtown. 

Among the more than a dozen presenters will be:

Glenn Dromgoole, “Just Happy to Be Here: Words to Encourage, Enlighten, Entertain”
ABOUT THE BOOK: A collection of more than 100 stories, columns, essays, and poems by Dromgoole. Some of the pieces are adapted from other books by the author; many have never been published before. Readers will find a mix of pieces that might be encouraging and others that might elicit a smile or a chuckle.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR: Dromgoole is the author of more than thirty books, a member of the Texas Literary Hall of Fame, owner of Texas Star Trading Company in Downtown Abilene, and a familiar face around Abilene.

Janice Six: “Confessions of a Female Pastor” and “Life Lessons for Littles”
ABOUT THE BOOKS: This first title offers inspiration, insight, and prayers for adults, while the second is based on 26+ life lessons express in more than 50 rhymes.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR: Six retired in 2022 after serving on staff at First Central Presbyterian Church (FCPC) for 25 years. Since July 2023, she has written both books and is now working on a third book to be released in 2025. Six holds a M.Div. from Abilene Christian University’s Graduate School of Theology and a D.Min. from Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary.

Loretta Fulton: “Dr. Bob: The Remarkable Story of Dr. Robert Carroll Barnes”
ABOUT THE BOOK: The book tells the story of the late Dr. Bob Barnes, a Hardin-Simmons University professor and president for 28 years of the international Viktor Frankl Institute of Logotherapy. Former HSU President Lanny Hall wrote in the Foreword: “Whether he was teaching graduate students the art and science of counseling, lecturing at seminars on logotherapy, speaking before large audiences in Dr. Robert Schuller’s Crystal Cathedral, or breaking bread with a friend of colleague, Dr. Bob was a positive influence for the greater good in our world.”
ABOUT THE AUTHOR: Fulton is a veteran journalist with more than 25 years experience in writing about religion and spirituality issues for the media. She is a 1969 graduate of the University of Texas with a degree in journalism. She began her career in 1969 at the Abilene Reporter-News. Retiring in 2007, Fulton has been a freelance writer ever since.
