The local leadership of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints delivered a large check to help local refugees assimilate into the community by providing money to help with settlement and starting small businesses. There will also be a large donation of beds to help refugees settle here in Abilene.
Ravimaran Savari, Deputy Director Programs for the International Rescue Committee in Abilene said: “ The generous large gift of cash and large bed donation from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is an enormous blessing to the IRC Abilene and its refugee clients. The donation gift enables our clients, who have fled from harm to home, to be equipped with job readiness, establish small businesses, outfit essentials for their home such as: beds, mattresses, and other household items. This goes a long way in enabling them to reach self-sufficiency sooner than planned. The gift will give them joy, comfort, and a sense of belonging, which they have not had in many years. On behalf of the IRC Abilene, I am humbled and grateful for such generosity and thank you for making a difference in the lives of our clients and the Abilene community as a whole.”
